Does anyone have a collection of GOP leaders' quotes of doom about the 1993 CLinton Economic Stimulus Plan?We Answered:
I don't have exact quotes on too many, but I distinctly remember the first "McLaughlin Group" after the Fiscal Year '94 Budget passed. I have it on tape. Host John McLaughlin asked which was more likely to be true in the summer of 1996 when Clinton ran for re-election: A, which he called the Rosy Scenario (a favorite phrase of Reaganauts), which included, in his definition, 8 million jobs created; or B, the Unrosy Scenario, which included 1 million jobs lost.Fred Barnes, then of the New Republic, said B was more likely, but suggested "You're way off on the job creation, John: Population growth alone will create 5 million new jobs." And Morton Kondracke, then editor of the Congress-themed newspaper Roll Call, said, "More B than A." (Eleanor Clift of Newsweek said A, and Jack Germond, the now-retired columnist of the old Washington Star and the Baltimore Sun, said more A than B.)
And guess what? Freddie and Mort were wrong... and went on to leave McLaughlin and found the Fox Noise Channel program "The Beltway Boys." (Barnes and William Kristol, another of the '93 naysayers, co-founded the Weekly Standard, which should've been called the American Standard, considering it was good for nothing but toilet paper!)
Actually, Barnes did have one point worth mentioning: Over 4 and especially 8 years, population growth should be a way to "grow the market." In that regard, Clinton had a little help on the way to creating 22 million new jobs. But in his 8 years, Bush created 7 million -- pretty much all of which could be explained by population growth -- and now 3 million of those are gone in just the last year!
Moral of the story, and an old joke: If you want to live like the Republicans, you have to vote for the Democrats.

Are conservatives disappointed that Republicans have already reneged on THREE promises? We Answered:

When he's speaker, will Boehner continue to hand out lobbyist checks on the House floor? We Answered:
There is no question that our Congress has been overrun by lobbyists who have twisted it out of a representative government. Both sides of the isle have received ridiculous stipends, trips, gifts, and promises of future employment. The question is, "Are we going to permit it to continue?"I could point out that the bullying in the Congressional showers was also improper coercion and creepy. We need to try to elect men and women who are equally appalled by such behavior and that is going to be a process. We also have to let the men and women who are already there that we aren't going to take it anymore.
Dignity, integrity, respect are all attributes I long for in our public officials; and more than that I expect it. Of course, I am often disappointed.

How many of you have seen Obama's Q+A at the House GOP Conference? We Answered:
I watched it all the way through and I found it to be clear, informative and a very good rebuttal to all the people on here who keep insisting that Obama isn't intelligent. He's smart, he takes on the Republicans' talking points directly, he's not afraid of confrontation and note: no teleprompter.Clara Said:
Will Obama's veto of GOP House spending measures lead to a government shut down as Rep. Westmoreland predicts? We Answered:
Shut Her Down! The Majority of Americans have had absolutely enough of this administration.Jason Said:
Did you see this?We Answered:
Oh great, I have to write again to my congresswoman. I was horrified to see what she thinks of immigration. She actually wrote down that illegal immigrants who committed other crimes should be allowed in on a case to case bases. I wonder what Waxman has to say, I still consider him my congressman , even though they redistrict me into south central LA.
