Republican Voting Guide

Frances Said:

Does either party fully stand behind the Constitution?

We Answered:

Nope they don't; the Constitution represents a limit to Federal power, and neither party want to be restrained by it. I think the Libertarian Party comes closest to actually standing behind it, but who knows how well they or any other small third-party would do if they became as powerful as the top two.

As for the people who are answering saying the Constitution is merely a "guide", seem to be completely missing the fact that the Constitution is the SUPREME Law of the Land. That's not something to take lightly or to question the relevance of, it is the body of the MOST relevant laws of the nation. As it is also the document that spells out the very powers of all branches of Government, so one can't be consistent in belittling the authority of the Constitution and yet accept the authority of Presidents and Congressmen and Judges that violate it, otherwise you're accepting a Government that grants itself whatever powers it desires without limit or restraint. And the Constitution is designed with a process in order to change it, it's spelled out in Article V, so there's no excuse to just go ahead and warp the interpretation of it in order to get it to mean what you want.

It'd be so great if both parties could just understand those simple facts, it could have saved this nation so much trouble.

Misty Said:

Do you want to vote for Obama and are a little worried about voting shenanigans?

We Answered:

I've already voted for him, absentee. I am worried about the shenanigans, but hoping fiercely for a landslide that will make them irrelevant. I know we aren't supposed to get complacent -- and I'm not: I've volunteered to drive people to the polls on election day -- but I'm hearing about significant Republican politicians jumping ship more and more now. It's amazing to follow this election campaign: fate has the tickets going tit for that in the "oops!" departments, but it seems that each with "oops!" that may send Obama back a few points (like this latest Biden gaff), some "yeah!" sends him foreward MORE, while an "oops!" in the McCain camp (like Palin's VP cluelessness) knocks the other ticket back even further.

Obama's all-states strategy is good protection against voter suppression. We need to remember it's the electoral college which matters, not the popular vote (and I think the EC also helps against voting issues by aggregating the vote).

Discuss It!
