I think the religious right is a big reason that the Republican party took a bit of a nose dive. They were very vocal and appeared to represent themselves as the majority of Republicans. This misrepresentation angered even Republicans and created a lot of in-fighting within the party. They lost their identity and unified front.

Therefore, I believe that for the Republican party to regain its credibility, they need to present themselves without the inflexible and intolerant values of the religious right. They also need to close the door on the loud mouthpieces that just seem to want to bash others without offering positive and alternative solutions (e.g.Rush Limbaugh)

In presenting themselves in a more tolerant, open-minded manner, the Republican party could easily make a come-back, and even as a Democrat, I hope it does.

McCain has always been very liberal in his Views, During the 2000 Primaries Bush and carl Rove did a nasty smear Campaign against McCain and it worked, this left McCain very Bitter, Mccain had met for several hours with Mass. Senator Ted Kennedy and for a while it looked as though McCain would actually cross party lines and defect to the Democrats , But ultimately he stayed Republican.
McCain only votes republican to stay within Party lines but opposes Republicans far more than What the Obama camp would admit to

Honestly, they don't really have to do anything. They just need to sit back, and let the true Obama unfold, and fail miserably. Which he surly will. When the actions, not just words, come to pass the republican party will rise to power again without a doubt.
