To be fair, not all liberals, but I have come across many who are like you described. (I live in a blue state.) It's okay for them to personally offend others with their "free speech" but it's not okay for someone to offend them. I think they feel morally superior, which is also strange because they get worked up about "religious people trying to cram religion down their throats". They just do not see that they are doing the same thing, just with politics or their world view instead of religion.
