Classical liberalism = the "originalism" that "modern liberals" claim they HATE with a white-hot passion.
Modern "liberalism" = the name Progressives re-branded their movement with. They needed an "all American" sounding label after their idol's name, "Hitler" became a dirty word here.
The two ideologies are OBJECTIVELY "Americanism" vs fascism. They ARE so different they cannot coexist. One or the other has to go.

Problem with gays, queers and other perverts is that they spread diseases like HIV/aids/hepatitis/TB by their unnatural behavior with drugs and feces, and often prey on young children. That's why we need and develop laws.

The meaning of "liberal" has changed. Today it typically means someone on the left (cradle to grave social welfare, government spending, social "freedom" etc.)

Back in the day a "liberal" was someone who supported greater market freedom, more personal freedoms, less government in the lives of citizens. It was "liberal" as in liberty, freedom from the interference (or support?) of the government.

Classic liberals would take a more active stance against extremest (who ever they are) because the extremest challenges the liberty of the individual

The use of the same name doesn't make sense until you apply the opposite philosophy to the deal, which would be conservative, base word conserve or save that which was. Classical Liberalism seeks to preserve what was considered to be liberal at the time of our nation's founding, while modern liberalism seeks the change and/or make progress to something new & different.

After Marx, progress tends to run toward collectivism, using the power of the state to make you your brother's keeper. Whether you think that it is the proper role of government to defend you individual liberties or to try to make the field more level will determine what kind of liberalism you'll embrace.

The whole left, right, liberal, conservative equation is quite different in Europe, but that's another topic.

They never did for me, which is why I always thought I was a liberal, until I found out about classical liberalism, and realized im much more of a classical liberal than a modern liberal.
