I think the most damaging thing was that they thought after the election that they had won over the people. They didn't think the people were still watching. They thought the Republicans would be gone for a decade and they could get away with whatever they wanted.

Independents wanted, and were promised, hope, change in Washington, no more lobbyists or special interests, and transparency.
They were lied to and given none of it.
If you notice, the Tea Party is really asking for that same thing. I hope the GOP isn't arrogant enough to take advantage of them, and actually does what they are told to do by the people.
