Fiscal Conservative Social Liberal

Tamara Said:

What party would a fiscal conservative/social liberal belong to?

We Answered:

common sense

Ivan Said:

Can the fiscal conservatives/social moderates beat the fiscal liberals and the social liberals?

We Answered:

All these labels are making my head spin. Look, there are only two actual political philosophies; Left and Right. Moderate is not a political philosophy, it is the lack of one.

On the one hand, you have the Left. They believe the Government owns everything and only allows us to have it. They believe the Government is best suited to control everything and distribute it most efficiently. They do not believe in self-reliance, or free speech or freedom of Religion or the Right to Bear Arms etc. They believe in an all powerful centralized government.

On the other hand, you have the Right. They believe Government is necessary only for the limited role spelled out for it by the Constitution. They believe in individual rights. They believe in freedom. They believe that political power resides in the people and is only loaned to the government temporarily. They believe we are a coutnry of laws, not a country of men. That means they hold that the Constitution is the final word not any politician.

You will learn that there is no way to be "fiscally Conservative" and not be Conservative socially. Why? Because there is no way to be fiscally Conservative and allow massive government spending on social programs. There is no way to be fixcally Conservative and interfer in the free market. There is no way to be fiscally Conservative and allow people to engage in behavior that damages society.

Your last statement makes no sense: "...fiscal conservatives all over the USA tend to be dissatisfied with both social conservatives and social liberals and in the East Coast they are hungry for social moderation or social libertarianism".

The fact is, most people in America live their lives according to a very Conservative philosophy. For instance, things like legalizing pot or redefining marriage get resoundingly defeated everytime the voters have the opportunity to have a say. On the East Coast, these issues fail. That puts the lie to the assertion that people want social Libertarianism. Also, "Social moderation" is Conservative. Social Libertarianism would be "anything goes".

The difference between Conservatives and Liberals is that Conservatives may preach to you about what you should or should not do but Liberals will use to full force of government to force you to do what they think you should do. An example would be health insurance. Conservatives would strongly advise people to purchase health insurance as a prudent and responsible fiscal discision. Liberals seek the ability to fine or jail you for not purchasing it. No Conservative would ever even suggest such a thing.

Freddie Said:

Please explain fiscal conservative, social liberal to me?

We Answered:

Social liberalism and fiscal conservatism don't go hand in hand.

Conservatism in the fiscal sense, means limited government intrusion into free markets, controlled spending, and accountability.

A social liberal is the epitome of a progressive....they believe in a vast welfare state similar to that of Europe similar to the european social democracies of France and Switzerland where the people are taxed at well above 50% on the dollar, but the government provides free everything to those who cannot afford to do anything for themselves.

Social liberalism also delves into civil rights somewhat....but the social liberal has skewed civil rights a bit as they are no longer rights as they are privledges....Civil rights was and is supposed to exist as a way to assure that all people are born with the same rights....but none should receive special treatment....aka Justice is blind and all that sillyness that people think is antiquated and irrelevant.

A social liberal cannot be a fiscal conservative because the basis of social liberalism is massive government intrusion and a vast welfare state funded by the government....that would be counter intuitive to fiscal conservatism as it stands for limited government and limited spending.

Joshua Said:

Please define fiscal conservative and social liberal in your own words.?

We Answered:

A fiscal conservative believes in a pay as you go system. All programs of the federal, state, and local governments should be required to have the funding to pay for each thing it does prior to enacting the program rather than writing tax increases in to the law to pay for the program at some time in the future. These same people are not suffering during the current credit card crisis because they do not use credit cards to buy things they cannot afford, or they pay off the credit cards monthly rather than racking up large debts.
A social liberal is a person who believes that everyone should start out with an equal chance. He would not have supported Jim Crow laws prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, but he also does not support the current minority programs which actually unfairly create reverse discrimination. He does not cry "racism" at every turn because he does not see race; he sees the person and his individual actions. Welfare and other social programs are not on his list of things that have made this country great. He believes every man, woman, and child should be provided with an adequate education and then be required to stand on his own two feet to make it in the world rather than be propped up by the government. "All men are created equal" and the "right to the liberty and the pursuit of happiness" aren't suggestions. They are rules to live by for every legal resident and citizen of the United States.
The two ideals are not opposed because the foundation of each is pride and personal responsibility. A social liberal differs from a social conservative in this since because he does not seek to impose his views on others by speech or by law. It is the fiscal liberal who seeks to solve all of our country's problems by government funding of right not to work for a living programs.

Robin Said:

Why is it there is no person that is a 'social conservative and fiscal liberal'?

We Answered:

The social conservative is reluctant to spend public money on social issues. The fiscal liberal is ready to spend public money on nearly anything, including social issues. The two stances are mutually exclusive.

And then there are the social liberals/fiscal conservatives that want social issues addressed but just don't want to pay for it. After all, the public purse is everybody's pocket.

Alfredo Said:

Is libertarianism (or "social liberal/fiscal conservative") really a coherent, consistent philosophy?

We Answered:

I agree, social standards and economics are inextricably linked.
