there is no way i can put even a brief description of all three here. what im going on is that labour want to keep out fox hunting where as the conservatives want the toffs to get their way and make it legal again. so labour for me atm.

George S gives a more formal answer than I will deliver. His are answers that properly describe what these types should mean. Today where good is bad and bad is good, the terms have been twisted beyond the limits of their true meaning.
Liberals believe in a larger government that is a full service bureaucracy. They believe in a level playing field. To attain this goal, they will take from the worker and give to the non worker. Their beliefs extend to the lack of personal responsibility in that you are a victim of your past so therefore not responsible for your actions. Liberals believe in a mild form of socialism that is not close to constitutional philosophy.. They are not to be confused with the progressive movement that has members in both political parties. Progressives are far left of the liberal ideology cleaving to the philosophical theories of Marx..
Conservatives believe in a small efficient government with a strong military. Less taxation and minimal regulation on industry. Free choice with less government control. Self reliance and responsibility for ones own actions. Close adherence to the principles of the Constitution is part of a responsible government.
The parties today are not the same as the old Republican and Democrat parties. Both have been infested with the progressive activists and have moved both left of where they once were. The Republicans are now the liberals and the Democrats have become the progressives. There is an move in the Republican party by it's core to regain the conservative values that were lost. Hopefully the Democrats will abandon the progressives to come back nearer the center.
Conservative is better because it requires personal responsibility for your actions. Less taxes and regulation, Less spending and waste. Strict adherence to the Constitution.
