Liberal Arts Colleges Universities

Bobbie Said:

Liberal Arts available at universities?

We Answered:

Liberal arts is offered as a major at universities, not just at Liberal Arts Colleges. You can always check out a school that you're interested and and see if they offer the liberal arts major by visiting their website.

Liberal arts is very general, so it's a good major for you if you're not sure what specific career you want to get into. However, if you have some idea of what career you want to get into, I would do some more research about what kind of education you need to do that kind of job.

Jeanne Said:

Do professors in liberal arts colleges have to publish in order to get tenured?

We Answered:

Yes, the majority of liberal arts colleges still expect their professors to do research and publish, especially research that involves undergraduates. Community colleges and technical schools don't expect that because (a) they often hire people with only masters degrees who have not done research and (b) they expect you to teach 5 classes a semester, which uses up all your time. Liberal arts colleges might expect 2-3 classes a semester, and larger universities 1-2.

Liberal arts colleges that have good art/film programs?

We Answered:

Such good grades! Why oh why would you waste that away on an art degree??

I highly recommend getting a more marketable degree; I don't mean to sound rude but art and film majors are generally laughed at in my company...

Heather Said:

Is it possible to get a marketing/advertising degree at a liberal arts college?

We Answered:

I got a BA in Business Administration with a major in Marketing from Huntingdon College. For me, it was the right choice compared to a university. (I needed the small teacher-student ratio!)

National Universities vs. Liberal Arts Colleges?

We Answered:

Have I ever got the book for you! Check out
Loren Pope's little book, "Colleges that Change Lives".
Well worth the few bucks.
They've got a web page, but the book is a lot better.
