Kirk Said:

What is your scholarly output like in the humanities?

We Answered:

Hey, Brad! Long time!

At one point, our VPAA argued for a 1:1 relationship for all publications of any kind. In her mind this meant for example the following equivalents: 1 scholarly paper (non-creative) = 1 painting = 1 musical performance (one piece) = 1 business consultant's report = etc. You get the idea. Relatedly, 1 book +/- = 1 gallery show (solo) = 1 original creative work of any kind other than visual art (dance, music, poetry, fiction, etc.).

Of course this is all complete garbage! They aren't equivalent. You and I know it. It's not about being disrespectful of the work of others, but rather about the number of available outlets for the work, the number of workers in the field, the funding, and about a dozen other variables. For example within biology there are dozens of journals for molecular types to publish in, while only a handful for ecologists. Imagine being a paleoecologist! What? ...two or three journals worldwide? So even within biology publications are not equivalent.

I think your question lacks an answer though. The work of an administrator (me on occasion) is to balance the philosophical, logical, and political when evaluating the performance of faculty members. If you're unfortunate enough to oversee a diverse unit (College of Arts & Sciences), then good luck! This, in my experience, is why the evaluations are best handled at the Department level.

And a quick note to one of your other responders: Museums are not all art museums. Science museums, natural history museums, museums of engineering and technology (the list could go on and on) make-up a significant percentage of museums in the world and draw huge visitorship. Yes, in fact people do often seek out scientific venues for entertainment and relaxation. It's ironic that she would be critical of you while being guilty of precisely the thing she thought you'd done. LOL!

Drop me an e-mail when you have time! We should catch-up!

Do liberal arts institutions and professors have a left-leaning political bias?

We Answered:

As a college student... it is so obvious in class when they stuff liberalism down our throats!

Robin Said:

How hard will it be to get into seminary or grad school after struggling then figuring out college?

We Answered:

The answer depends on your grades, GRE scores and letters of recommendation.

Regionally Accredited School that accepts DETC credits for a liberal arts degree...?

We Answered:

American Military University used to be both DETC and RA themselves - they may still be. I also remember reading that Western Governors was in the same position of dual accreditation.

It would be logical to assume that a DETC school would accept DETC transfer credit and in these two cases the school is also regionally accredited.

Excelsior College, Charter Oak State College, and Thomas Edison State College are known to have taken some DETC credit if the course has been reviewed by the American Council on Education (ACE) for credit. This is the case with PennFoster credit, many of their courses are ACE reviewed even though they are DETC accredited.

Then there's the fact that no school is required to accept transfer credits from any other school but all schools are permitted to accept whatever they'd like (even DETC) so it's sometimes an individual review matter to get credit transferred. You can always try any school you'd like to ask.

But we need more information before you can know which school to apply to like SAT and ACT test score as well AP scores. What about your EC? Do you do sports or a president of a club?

I had a 3.65 and had a 1600 SAT and 24 ACT but I did a lot of EC activities and had many awards that I was able to apply to several top schools. Like Bucknell and Bates.

Good Luck
