Liberal Arts Mathematics

Floyd Said:

Is Liberal Arts Mathematics just another name for Stats?

We Answered:

Not at all!
Liberal Arts is pretty much the most basic math in high school. Usually, after you take the required Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II, you have an option to continue in math or stop. This is where many "elective" math classes come in. For the "higher" ranged students they are usually encouraged to go into pre-calculus, calculus, or statistics. ( AP/Honors). For the "average students" it is suggested they take liberal arts or math analysis. Math Analysis is a small intro to pre-cal; it covers pre-cal basics at a slow rate and reviews algebra II. Liberal Arts is an overall review of all kinds of math. It is a good class to prepare for SAT, although not very impressive in college applications. ( It is sometimes considered the " I don't want to look lazy so i'll take this easy math class" class.
So yeah, in conclusion, no liberal arts is DEFINITELY not the same as liberal arts.
A bit extensive but hope i helped.
good luck

Liberal Arts Mathematics - What is it?

We Answered:

Hi,

Liberal Arts at our school is a class for students who are weak in algebra I or geometry skills who are not ready to take algebra II.

In unfortunately is made up of truly weak students who could use the help at a slower pace and kids who are too lazy to go to the class where they should be because it would require effort on their part and Liberal Arts was the easy way out.

I hope that helps!! :-)

anyone ever taken "Liberal Arts Mathematics"?

We Answered:

"Liberal Arts Mathematics" sounds like Math Light, i.e. for people who just want to fulfill the graduation requirement in math. If you have already taken Algebra II and did well in it, why not try PreCalculus or whatever they call it at the college? It would be the next logical course.

Frances Said:

What is Math 101 ( Mathematics for Liberal Arts) about?

We Answered:

I'd guess it's a very low-level algebra-based math course.

Felicia Said:

what is mathematics for liberal arts?

We Answered:

A futile attempt to try to rub at least a little math onto the clueless.

It would be the equivalent to a culinary arts class to teach ramen noodle preparation to those who can't boil water.

It's just above math for jocks.

Roland Said:

Is liberal arts mathematics hard?

We Answered:

Liberal Arts math is probably your college's answer to 'everybody, even non-math majors, need a math class.' It will likely be a coaster's class with very little benefit.

College Algebra is very different from high school algebra. I took it in high school as well, and didn't have much trouble, but I nearly failed it in college. Just a different teaching method I guess. CA is more designed for students taking additional math courses at the college level.

If you're just taking a math courses because it's required, go with the liberal arts math. No reason to break your brain for no reason. But if you're a science major, or something that will require more than one math course, do yourself a favor and take the college algebra. It will be harder, but you'll get more out of it.

Harry Said:

which is harder college algebra or liberal arts mathematics?

We Answered:

I can't seem to pass college algebra, so I would go with that one.
