Liberal Arts Program

Herman Said:

What is the point of a liberal arts program?

We Answered:

The liberal arts include not only English, the humanities, and arts, but also science and math. College students are expected to be educated, and that means knowing more than your particular area of study - it means being able to think, read, write, communicate, and do math at the college level, and that's expected of almost every job you'd get with a college degree. Doctors need all that (and also quite a bit of background in biology and chemistry) before starting med school.

Toni Said:

Is it easy getting into UNC's liberal arts program?

We Answered:

Which UNC do you want? There is a huge difference between Chapel Hill and Greensboro. If you want Chapel Hill, and your an out of state average student, good luck to you. If you are in state you have a slightly better chance, but it is still unlikely. I would suggest exploring other colleges in North Carolina similar to UNC such as Elon, Wake Forest, High Point University etc.

But I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get into all of your colleges :D

Carole Said:

I am interested in an on line liberal arts PhD program. Any ideas?

We Answered:

No respectable program would do a Ph.D. online, I'm afraid. The whole idea of a Ph.D. is to socialize you as a researcher, and they really can't do that from cyberspace.

Maureen Said:

Who knows about the UTeach-Liberal Arts Program at UT Austin?

We Answered:

The Liberal Arts Program at UT is extremely competitive, and they have really stepped it up in the last few years. They do not take the top 10% of each high school, because its so competitive, and to increase your chances of getting in I would suggest:
-Write REALLY good essays.
-Be in the top 4-5% of your class in your HS
-Lots of Community Service
-Rigor classes in HS (AP/Honors)

Bottom line, it is extremely hard to get into especially at UT (Austin). They other UT campuses are not as competitive and you might want to try and apply there as well as a back up college. But UT (Austin) is a amazing school for Liberal Arts, MBA, Nursing, Engineering, etc.

And I wish you the best of luck getting into UT (Austin) =]

Good Luck =]

what are some colleges with a good liberal arts program?

We Answered:

There are a lot of good ones out there. Depending on if you want a rural or an urban university, a large or a small college, one with a religious affiliatoin, or one without you may make a wide array of choices. Here are some you may look into; Swarthmore, Colby, Amhearst, Pomona, Saint Joseph's, Duquesne, William and Mary, Washington and Jefferson, Siena, Penn, Princeton, and Haverford.
