Liberal arts colleges offer 4-year degrees, and sometimes a masters program or two. Universities (both public and private) offer 4-year degrees (bachelors), masters, and PhD programs. They tend to be larger than liberal arts colleges. Most liberal arts colleges are private (but not all of them) and they usually don't offer professional majors, like nursing, accounting, or engineering (although a few do). Which one you attend depends on what you want to major in, and if it's something both offer, personal choice. Just because it has 'university' or 'college' in the title doesn't mean it's worse or better than the other.

Most people in the hard sciences are liberal. WTF is "peer review nonsense?" Do you even know what that means? It means that a group of experts in a given field, who sit on the publication committees of various journals, review an article before its published. It isn't like posting to your blog or facebook.
