I can't say for all "liberal" Christian denominations, but those that subscribe to "liberation" theology are mostly Catholic. They take Jesus at his word, and thus are economically socialistic, but view OT material as parable. Jesus, God the son, taught through parable. Why wouldn't god the father do the same?

i'm catholic and have nothing against gay people. i don't think you'll find denominations that are ok with it but you can generally find individual people who are.

Unitarians are generally fairly liberal, I'm not sure if you'd count them as Christians though. And I've heard the Society of Friends is fairly liberal. But Baptists of any degree are most certainly NOT liberal.

Yes, the conservatives in the Episcopal Church broke off and formed the Anglican Church of North America. I would like to say that I'm glad to have them gone, but it is still sad that this is happening in the Anglican Communion. No one really wants to see their church split. I didn't know that the UCC was losing members, I thought they had been accepting gays for a long time. I'm not sure about the ELCA either, I know they just decided it is not a sin to be gay.
But on the other hand, other people are being attracted to these churches for that very reason.

and Mickey, I completly agree with you. It is very sad, actually. The Episcopal Church uses the Revised Common Lectionary which makes it impossible to focus too much on certain parts of the Bible: the entire Bible is read in a cycle every three years.

I don't know. My mom's church (Presbyterian) is just extremely dull. I think young people crave excitement.

Liberal has to do with their doctrine (core beliefs) not their style of worship.
You could have a church that very strictly follows the teachings of Christ and has contemporary worship.
