They don't really promise anything solid, that's their loophole. Although Rudd has promised to abolish workplace agreements, so we'll see if that happens. Howard promised to keep Interest Rates low. many people perceived that to mean stop them from rising. but he has kept them lower than other governments (dare i mention Hawke's 17%).Politicians infer things, so people think they are promising something specific, when they mean it in a general sense, and can get out of the 'promise'.
I agree with you, I don't believe anything a politician says. They both spend so much time bagging each other that they don't make their actual policies known, which is a shame.
