It's a shame you did the work and got very few responses.

Anyway, I would think that within the GOP the moderate Republicans have the stronghold. And I would think that social liberals have control over the Democrats. That seems to reflect the current trend atleast.

Yes. These people don't even know the difference between socialists and liberals so the difference between a Democrat and a liberal is way too hard for them. That's not to be rude, just factual.
Also what they mean when they say liberal has little to do with real liberals or even real people. Liberal is a cardboard stereotype they don't like and that's everything that's wrong with the world.

The problem with conservatives isn't the everyday conservatives themselves; it's the people they listen to. Conservative leaders, in their vilification of liberals, tell so many lies about what liberals are supposed to believe, support, say, do, etc., that the everyday conservatives end up hating a fictional enemy. If what the pundits said about liberals was true, I'd be a hardcore conservative.

If liberals were so terrible, these pundits and politicians would have no reason to lie at all. They could just recite facts and let them stand for themselves. Instead they take part in character assassination and avoid speaking about actual issues. They make blanket statements that have no basis in fact. What's worse is that many of them cloak their rhetoric in a pseudo-Christian guise to act as if God is somehow on their side (even though the Bible basically tells them to pray quietly and stay out of politics).

Virtually all of the lies that are told about liberals are easily shattered with the barest attempt at rationality and reason. The facts stand for themselves, yet so much mud is slung that the facts are like gems buried under several feet of mud. The facts are there, and are obvious and clear, but unfortunately one must dig through all the crap that is spewed in order to bring them to light. When one digs a handful of it away, the pundits are expert at piling on even more crap, or more often, will distract and divert away from the digging.

President Obama signed a bill making it illegal to "hunt or fish on Federal land"..... sounds good
.... except when you do not hunt and fish things tend to get out of control....
EXAMPLE... In Alaska when they built the pipeline..... the heated pipes melted the snow and the caribou could eat the grass all year round.... they flourished.....as the herd grew the wolves that eat the caribou also flourished.... as caribou have one baby at a time and wolves have four or more... wolves quickly started to out number caribous.... they were destroying the herds Eskimos need to survive..... Governor Sarah Palin authorized the killing of wolves to prevent the destruction of the caribou and the starvation of the Eskimo.....NOW....with hunting and fishing illegal on that land....the wolves will destroy the caribou..... wolves will soon run out of food and start attacking other prey....possibly the starving Eskimos.....with little or no food the wolves will begin a slow painful starvation themselves ....it will take the caribou YEARS to recover..... ??If they do recover
Hunting and fishing are important tools in wildlife management........in preserving the ecological balance....without it..... nature goes through a cycle of feast and starvation that is more horrific than any hunters bullet.... beyond that....millions of small hunting and fishing businesses will be forced to close.... millions of people will be unemployed..... state money revenues will be reduced..... state hunting and fishing tourist flow will be reduced impacting grocery stores, restaurants, motels etc
EVERYBODY is impacted..... including the environment

EXAMPLE..... A few years ago government policies authorized the drilling for oil off the gulf coast.... Environmentalist screamed that drilling would destroy the billion dollar shrimp industry.... in fact it caused the shrimp industry to flourish.....shrimp fishing was never better .....the warm lights on the drilling rigs and the resulting algae gave the shrimp an unlimited food supply and they loved it
Then we have of course the resent drilling disaster which had the opposite impact....we are still accessing the impact of that disaster......all of this done by government policy and it impacted the environment.

EXAMPLE a few years ago the government decided that America was running out of water so they passed a law reducing the amount of water you can use to flush the toilet..... the goal was to conserve precious water.....only problem is the amount of water authorized is not enough to clear the toilet and most people flush twice....using MORE water not LESS.....

Mainly because the normal means used to protect the environment result from imposing regulations on business. And the conservative platform generally favors few (if any) regulations on business.

So, it's not the goal of protecting the environment they oppose. It's the way that Democrats (not all liberals) usually try to achieve that.

Many liberals don't try to accomplish the goal through government legislation, and instead try to work within the free market, employing basic principles of capitalism, to give companies a financial incentive to make the changes themself. And that's a model that conservatives (opposed to govt regulation of business) should be able to support as well.
