I don't see any contradiction. People need jobs in order to live. There is sufficient technology to control the pollution that factories cause. Both issues could be favorably resolved if the committment to do so existed. Liberals care about people and the environment.

well, liberalism has evolved, as the needs of the people have evolved, over time.

initially, liberals were the ones standing for civil rights, equal pay, child labor laws, reasonable working conditions... things of that nature.

once they fought long and hard enough to gain some ground in those areas, they moved on to equal opportunity in education and employment, privacy rights, a social safety net for the poor and elderly...

now, with programs in place to care for America the way every other civilized country on earth does (aside from health care, which we're fighting conservatives tooth and nail on), liberals have turned their considerably larger brains to conservation, ecological study, alternative energy sources...

basically, liberals are the people that care about you no matter how much you bad-mouth them.

Obama doesn't have any conservative beliefs, but since nearly every political party in Canada is socialist/fascist, Obama would feel comfortable as a member.
