Liberal Party Leaders

Steven Said:

THOUGHTS & FEELINGS TOWARDS LEADERS OF THE LIBERAL PARTY.?

We Answered:

About the current federal leader? I'm a liberal supporter generally, but Abbott is just too religious and socially conservative for my liking. I support rational economic policies, but I want religion kept out of politics. I'll still pick him over Rudd though.

I would have preferred Costello personally, but he wasn't really electable. Christopher Pyne would be my choice for a future leader.

Liberal Party Interest Rates??

We Answered:

Richo ... it is documented and has been recognised ( though NOT advertised ) by the Liberal Party .. that interest rates, DID indeed reach 22% UNDER Howard AS TREASURER...

No point denying it .

EDIT .. re the post above me .. malcolm fraser is far far better a man that Howard ever could be .. Howard screwed up Fraser didn't ( with the exception of appointing Howard as treasurer)

EDIT #2 Now Barney OF course lemons and oranges CAN be compared .. they are BOTH citrus fruits and are both therefore at risk of being damaged by disease caused by fungus/bacteria and viruses .. Just as the Australian Way of life is at risk from being destroyed by Howard, Costello and Abbott

Liberals Conservatives -- Do you feel represented by your party leaders?

We Answered:

More or less, yes.

Todd Said:

Who is the leader of the liberal party?

We Answered:

What country are you referring to? If you're referring to the US, there is no national liberal party.

In the UK there is a party called the Liberal Democrats headed by Nick Clegg, about which, I as an American know little. I do know that the Liberal Democrats in the UK are in a coalition government with the Conservatives.

Dianne Said:

Why are some people expecting Stephen Dion to have to step down as leader of the Liberal party?

We Answered:

The leader of a party is expected to push an agenda and gain seats in an election; after all, if they win, that party leader becomes Prime Minister. Stephane Dion failed abysmally in both regards; he not only cost the Liberal party their standing, but he lost a large number of seats to the Conservatives. This is doubly embarrassing when you consider Canada is a very Centre-Left leaning country that has had liberal majorities in Parliament throughout recent history. If your leader isn't doing the job in any industry, he (normally) loses the job, right?

Aside from the obvious language obstacle - you know you're in trouble when the leader of Bloc Quebecois can speak better English, as well as understand it - Dion made an unforgivable miscalculation/gamble with his centerpiece policy, the Green-Shift "Carbon Tax" that no one was able to fully understand, including Dion himself. Tying the Liberals to a radically different (and bizarre) agenda in the midst of an economic crisis was tantamount to political suicide. He needed to light a firestorm to knock Harper and the Tories from the top spot; that Carbon plan was nowhere close.

If he doesn't step down, the Liberal leadership may have to oust him by force. It's a stunning display of ego that he did not resign immediately following the election results.
