What are the actual consequences of having a public sex offender's registry?

We Answered:

It causes major problems. i wonder sometimes if it goes too far, as controversial as that sounds....

The remainder of their lives are ruined...their reputations destroyed...

For starters, at least here in the US, i live in New Jersey. You become a sex offender, you remain one for the rest of your life, with a felony on your record that can never be wiped away.

You are bound by law to live nowhere near children and you are prohibited from being anywhere near them. (though that part of the law is understandable)

It is extremely difficult to find a job.

Society doesn't accept them, though there are a few people who do sympathize with them, and feel the laws go too far.

Though what i just listed doesn't sound like much, there is an enourmous amount of discrimination against these people. Finding places to live is an extremely hard task, and to be able to permanently live there is literally a luxory as they oftentimes are forced out of their home to wander like a nomad from one place to another.

As a matter of fact, earlier this week in my county, there was a group of offenders who lived in tents in the forest away from people. They had nowhere to go, nowhere to live, and they weren't interfering with anyone or anything. They were even placed there and allowed to be there by officials. i forgot the reasoning behind it, but they have now been forced to pick up their tents and move elsewhere. They are forced to find a specific spot to live. And here in New Jersey, we have the highest dense population in the country, so to actually find a place where you're far away enough to meet the requirements is darned well near impossible.

Election question: would a National/Liberal coalition be any different to previous coalitions?

We Answered:

Yes they would.

Different leadership, no matter what party, always determines the direction.

Clifton Said:

When Tony Abbott is claiming that the Coalition has won 73 seats, is he including WA Nationals Tony Crook?

We Answered:

Yes, they are including Tony Crook as a member of the Liberal/National coalition in the only way it counts. That is because Tony Crook has publicly stated that he will only support Gillard for PM if she dumps the mining tax (which she wont) then by default, he supports Tony Abbott in any "no confidence" motion that might be put forward.

Secondly, in the case of supply (money) bills put before the parliament - he either supports Labor or the Liberal/National coalition... he cannot be "independent" on a supply bill vote. Because by default he supports Abbott for PM, it's likely he would support a "coalition government" (if we had one) supply bills.

As a cross-bencher, he can vote however he wants on any other issue. But clearly, if it came to a vote in parliament on the "preferred leader and government" he would still side with the Liberal/National coalition. This is why Abbott continues to count Tony Crook as part of the Coalition (in just the same way that Gillard now counts Adam Brandt, Tony Windsor and Rob Oakeshott as supporters of the Labor party... even though, they are not "members" of the Labor party). He is just part of the "final numbers" that side with the Coalition, so I know that I would assume he is definately a coalition member, and this is also how the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) counts it as well.

Did liberals "Jump the Shark" with their "Tea Party is racist" accusations?

We Answered:

No, we told the truth. Even though some non-whites were elected, that doesn't erase this:

Troy Buswell... How should the former Western Australian Liberal Treasurer be punished ?

We Answered:

I never liked or trusted Buswell after he stabbed Matt Birney (who would have been a great Premier) in the back to become leader.
Then we had the chair sniffing incident which lost him the leadership but I think Barnett must of owed him something for backing him otherwise why make him treasurer.
So are far as I am concerned not only should Buswell have been sacked but Barnett should be held to task for not getting rid of him.
Also I find it very convenient that he was allowed to resign to save face and Barnett once again did nothing after all he is WA's leader and doesn't seem to care how we look to the other states.

P.S I am sure Buswell thinks he is the Bill Clinton of Australian politics.

Western Australia Election . . I'm confused . . help . .!?

We Answered:

ah, free society - when its great its really great and when its not its - still better than most but tends toward the lowest denominator of intelligence.

well, if your political parties are anything like our Democrats and Republicans over here in the US House and Senate, they'll spend so much time posturing and pretending to 'fight the enemy' that they'll tie everything up and keep anything from actually getting done. At least that's what's been going on over here lately. Its more about proving a point, you see, than actually getting anything productive done for the good of the general populace because frankly they get paid the same whether they even show up for work or not. Ours for instance had a HUGE energy solution they were supposed to be working out and then decided to go on vacation instead.

That cynical look at government aside, maybe a couple people on each team will get their heads together and out of their own as- assumptions and work something out. Or maybe the people in your area, with a bit of prompting can either write enough letters and make enough phone calls to their representatives to tell them that bribing the National Party is NOT what they were voted there to do or you can get enough people with pull or influence to make a really big deal about it so the politicians can slink under the carpet and pretend they weren't contemplating anything like that in the first place. Its amazing what people in power will do if enough of the people that put them there make enough noise. You could start petitions, see about getting your local radio stations and newspapers involved, do a peaceful demonstration or something of the like. Anything to get more people aware and off their butts about this. You've got to make some noise.

That's another part of the privilege and responsibility of being in a free nation.
