Does anyone know where to get a John Howard/Liberals t-shirt?We Answered:
As odd as it may sound, the Liberal Party haven't made t-shirts for the campaign. I've tried to get one myself. You can try cafepress.com, they have a few variations. I used t-shirts.com and made a really cool t-shirt myself. T-shirts.com is highly recommended. Good luck mate!Dean Said:
To Australians, am I able to get a vote for John Howard t-shirt from the government? We Answered:
What's Liberal about John Howard? Is the party a misnomer? Seems to me he gets a lot of his support from wowsers.Alan Said:
what would people think if i wore a planned parenthood t-shirt in public? We Answered:
People get pretty testy when you wear something on your body that supports an organization that performs the mass genocide of innocent, unborn babies that cannot voice their own desires on the matter. I wouldn't wear that if I were you.Sherry Said:
Why is there such a strong, pervasive liberal/leftist bias in academia? We Answered:
7 times as many professors are liberals as opposed to conservatives.People I know in leftist activists groups all with rarely any exceptions seem to be well read, up to date news-wise and very very intelligent.
I think professors and people drawn to intellectual, people centered, giving fields just tend to be liberals, just as more business people into money tend to be conservatives as they tend to be more into self serving and money and practicality over idealism.
It is not that the field is biased but that the life's career choices of people with a conservative vs liberal mindset find important and fulfilling personally differ according to their world view.
Noone is keeping conservatives out. they just prefer not to go into fields where the money is far less, where it is currently difficult to find a job full time that gives benefits (colleges prefer to hire part time to save money on paying benefits. A college teacher I had who was quite smart had that problems for many years and was pretty mad about it).
I ran into the same thing when getting my elementary education degree. At one class run by black professors, they told us to look around the packed rooms of hundreds of students and see how many were white and how many students were black that were studying to be teachers. There were only about 5 black students.
They then proceeded to tell us it was our fault, that we were taking slots form black teachers, and tried to indoctrinate in us that it was because the tests for teaching such as the NTE were culturally biased against blacks and that black children deserved black teachers and should have black teachers instead of us white teachers. I was kind of shocked.
They mentioned in the course that the majority of blacks taking the national teacher's exams were in the bottom 5% and that this was because the tests were "culturally biased". I am sorry but those test tested skills in various subjects/areas to see if one was qualified to teach and if a person wanting to be a teacher knew this material so badly that they could not get anywhere in the top 95%,. they had no business teaching...black or white and I think people would agree with that statement. Boy that class made me mad..they tried to make us feel it was OUR fault there were few black teachers at that school. As it was I saw white students who left papers in the typewriter that had dozens of spelling and punctuation errors who were going to be teaching our students and the already dumbed down standards.
It is the same here noone is keeping conservatives out..they either do not have the smarts it takes. the desire to get so much education, or they do not wish to take a low paying job like teaching.
I once ran into an Indian man who told me everyone hated him saying he stole the technology doctorate program slots from American students, but he explained to me the school was forbidden by law to take any students from other countries until they had left the slots open for a long period of time. If no Americans wanted or were qualified or smart enough for the slots, only then could he take the slots.
He said noone who applied was able to do the work as it required an extremely high IQ which many people from India and other Asian countries generally have in large numbers. Noone but their own lack of high IQ or lack of desire for that field was keeping Americans from getting the degree the Indian man eventually got and worked his rear off to accomplish.
I feel the vast majority of college age students unless they were extremely indoctrinated by Republican parents at that age are much more liberally bent naturally at that idealistic age.
Even my brother in law's child, daughter of a strong rush Limbaugh loving republican, did not vote for Bush when she was in college and was a more conservative democrat and also married one This from a guy who talks far right politics day and night. for all I know that in itself turned the daughter off or helped her see inadequacies and lack of compassion in some of his views. Often these youngster turn more conservative as they get older. He was able to control my sister into turning repub but not his daughter. I guess the daughter now older did not have to live with him and do his bidding anymore. It seems his controlling nature and obsession with buying things and money is what really turned her off not any professors. The young notice things like that.
It is not the professors turning them but their young idealism and compassion, desire for peace and love for the environments and some of the liberal moral stances.
This comment is one that rightie talk show hosts place into people's heads so often they have come to believe it. I can't think of many teachers in my 6 years of college who pushed any political or agenda type views but one who taught sociology. If they are pushing their views on students all the time why did I only have one or two classes out of over 60 classes even mention anything that might be considered political
Of course the political science class was by nature political, and was a class where the teacher was in my mind clearly liberal but did not treat any of us despite knowing exactly how we thought with any favoritism that I could detect. Despite sitting on the far right side then in her class, she gave me the same highest grade I earned in all my other classes and treated me the same as everyone else and did not push her views on people).
The only ones who had an obvious agenda was the sociology teacher who was a feminist lesbian with a rude personality we all hated). The conservatives know in order to guarantee their spots they must lie, convince blocks of liberals like students or blacks to change etc have a war/strong military need, etc to win elections. they need to find things to blame and a way to try to get parents to get rid of the liberal professors they are blaming for the students voting progressively. But by their nature young people are progressive for the most part. It is often the business world that changes people. My son told me everyone in his company including all the bosses are republicans. Many in churches are mislead to think that republicans are the moral party and it is sinful to vote democratic which is very misguided and over simplified.
I think you are mistaking the causation thinking there is a correlation between the two. Young people who are intrinsically republican are not going to change from some professor's views even if they happened to be outspoken which I doubt based on my 6 years of higher education that they are. ...in fact, most people work harder defending their views when they are opposite the teachers, so children reared to be strong repubs would fight harder to speak out less the teacher influence people in ways they do not believe. they aren't going to be changing and neither are most of the naturally liberal young students. At this age, people are fighting for independence and learning to make their own views not people who are spoon fed like younger people might be. give the young college students more credit than to be weak minded puppets blown by any wind or talk.
I attended a political science class where the teacher had us take a test and seated us in class in order according to our scores with about 5 far leftist, 5 far rightists and aobut 45 people somewhere in the middle, so all knew exactly where we stood politically and that made it a hotbed of debate.
At the time I tested far right though I am now far left. I did so apparently solely based on my more conservative religious and moral viewpoints at the time but found myself -to my surprise-arguing the liberal fiscal agenda as much as the far leftists.
What they test failed to distinguish was I was fiscally liberal but socially conservative which I find is the least popular stance in this country but the one I find closest to that taught in the bible as my christian views.
I can't really find a party that fits me so I must chose one or the other. Since the abortion issue, for instance, is something that never changes despite all republic talking against it. and is just used to win republican votes, I came to see that more unborn lives where saved from liberal policies than from republican's useless, ineffective but passionate rhetoric.
Since 15% of all abortions are done for financial reasons like no job, no health care, etc if the party working to help remedy these things more were supported (ie--democrats) 15% of the 1.3 million lives in the us aborted each year would be a savings of 206,850 lives a year which is far more than the republicans give us for all their talking. making democrats the true party for those concerned about abortions and life. In fact, abortions were the lowest under Clinton than since abortions started in 1973 and the highest under Bush's administration likely due to the economy.
Since the lord told us not to judge others, to care for the poor and the sick, to work for peace, I feel the democratic party caters much more to my christian beliefs.
It is not the professors causing the liberal bent of the young but their more other centered views at that age in their lives and their idealism for a better world for all yet the professor gets blamed when kids vote or think differently than their parents or the oldest adults who tend to be more conservative.
