Liberalization In India

Dennis Said:

What price Liberalization/Globalization now, India?

We Answered:

Scientifically, it is difficult to agree with your observations and analysis. However, those who want to remain slaves to politicins preachng communism/ socialism and living like rich gods interfering with the lives of people and keeping India among the league of poorest nations, they are not the people who care for logic or science. Emotions and know-all attiude clouds their thinking process and they are suscipltible to fall prey to the nice words of one political party or another. The truth is that India has suffered long under socialism of various sorts, that India has made extraordinary progress when the politicians had brought India to bankruptcy and most reluctantly had to accept liberalisation and economic reform programme, and that once the bankruptcy stage was over, the same political parties - ranging from CPM to Congress, BJP to Samajwadi Party, Admk/ DMK to Maoists are raising there efforts to stop the process of liberalisation and economic reforms. Had they not done so, India would have had much higher per capita income and much lower unemployment and greater income inequality. Current ills of Indian economy are due to continued political socialsm that resists economic effciency and economic freedom of the people. The entire political regime is anti-people, anti economic growth, nti- equality of income distribution. The regime of political parties are only interested in enjoying power to spend tax payuers' money and get bribes from their power to sell land and other favours to industrialists as well as make their party cadres richer.
National emergency is unlikely in the current political regime. All parties want elections - elections brings unaccounted money and promises more money for formng coalitions and then further money and privleges as MPS and MLAs. So here also you are not correct. Whether in power or not, all political parties enjoy power and economically better off. They will not allow Emergency. Socialism is only in the distribution of unaccounted money, economic privileges, bribe money and extortion money among various political parties and their cadres - socialism is not for the good of the people and was never really meant to be so. It is only a slogan that can make human being happy being slaves to politicians.

liberalization in india?

We Answered:

In general you are calling economic liberalisation of 1990 as liberalisation of India. Liberalisation is relaxing the boundaries of investments and control over the business. Liberalization in India was inevitable due to globalization. Liberalization has changed a lot immediately in the 30 % of population but for the balance 70 % population who are in the rural area could not benefitted out of it. The service sector has improved and private investment also increased in the past and present decade. But the poor have been living as a poor, there are about 25% population are earning below 1$ per day. Un-employment rate is stable, population growth has increased except in two states of India. Corruption at all levels especially at bureacratic level is very common which is the important hurdle of all problems. Politicians depends on bureacrats and bureacrats depends on politicians hence the elite group has swallowing all the benefits. Unemployment for the educated person is very worst and sin to them. They have studied with expectations and spend all the money for studying but they have to be employed under the uneducated, hence education has lost its value. The person, who save the money without study could control the educated person by under employing him. In-equality is existing at all levels, which has been increased by libralisation. Liberalisation supports capitlism but 70% of the population does not have any capital other than there labour. In general liberalisation results good for all (politically and economically) bad by increasing inequality and increase of poverty. Note: Mrs.Sonia Gandhi and Mr.Rahul Gandhi are the only hope and scope for India.

Greg Said:

impact of liberalisation in india?

We Answered:

At this rate yes, India is at risk of becoming more like America.
As a 30+ yr resident of the US, born in India to parents of East Indian descent, it is not something I want to see other than the elimination of the caste system, the reduction of India's exportation of intellect, and a more even distribution of wealth.

I have to disagree w/ the previous poster that Bollywood is becoming Americanized. Although I can see that they are putting out larger budget films, the story lines are not becoming westernized.

I have hope that because India has traditionally been a varied mix of cultures and views, she will be able to integrate the good in western culture to create a new India, not a westernized India.
