Math For Liberal Arts
Alvin Said:
Math Word Problem college level liberal arts math?We Answered:
Names: Greg, Bobby, Marcia, JanSchools: Penn St, Harvard, U GA, Berkeley
Subjects: Math, chemistry, art.
The 4th major is English Lit.
Found the problem here: http://occawlonline.pearsoned.com/bookbi…
Clues:
1) Marcia and the student headed for U GA met in 9th grade before Jan and the chemistry major moved to town.
2) Neither Bobby nor the art major is going to Berkeley and Bobby couldn't get in to Penn State.
3) Greg and the math major specifically decided not to apply to schools in California.
4) Marcia had a tough time choosing between mathematics and a science for her major.
The four of them are: Marcia, U GA student, Jan, chemistry major (clue 1)
Marcia is not the chem major, so she is the math major (clue 1, clue 4).
Neither Bobby (clue 2) nor Math Major Marcia nor Greg (clue 3) attends Berkeley, so that is Jan.
Recapping:
Marcia (math), U GA student, Jan (Berkeley), chemistry major
Neither Marcia (math), nor the chem major, nor Jan (Berkeley) is the art major (clue 2),
so that is the U GA student.
That leaves English Lit for Jan.
Recapping again:
Marcia (math), ? (U GA, art), Jan (Berkeley, Eng Lit), ? (chem)
Bobby is neither Marcia nor Jan, nor the art major (clue 2), so he is the chem major, and Greg is the art major at U GA.
Recapping again:
Marcia (math), Greg (U GA, art), Jan (Berkeley, Eng Lit), Bobby (chem)
Bobby did not attend Penn St (clue 2), so he attends Harvard, and Marcia attends Penn St.
That wraps it up, with:
Marcia: Math major at Penn St.
Greg: Art major at U GA
Jan: English lit major at Berkeley
Bobby: Chem major at Harvard
and that is consistent with all the clues.

Which Math is easier? Finite Math or Liberal Arts Math?We Answered:
depends on what math you've done so far, and how these classes are taught at your school. I'd highly recommend talking to you counselor about this rather than asking a bunch of random people who have no clue what school you attend.Sergio Said:

Is Liberal arts math easier than college algebra? We Answered:
I believe liberal arts math involves simpler equations and problem solving that college algebra. That is because college algebra has to prepare students for highly technical courses like engineering and science. So the math can be complex. People in liberal arts do not need complex math.Jon Said:
what are the benefit to get AS in liberal arts math and science in order to enter to a nursing program ?We Answered:

What do you think is the easier course, Math for liberal arts or college algebra? We Answered:
I'm not familiar with 'math for liberal arts' - but imagine it to be similar to 'math in modern society' - based on tech and certification requirements at my college.College algebra may be challenging - but it really is your best bet. Later on, if you decide to further your degree or certification, chances are that college algebra will be required. So - get it out of the way now.
In addition, college algebra will make science (chemistry not necessarily biology - except in your dosage calculations) easier.
Good luck, you can do it!
