What does the Labour party in the UK really stand for? Is it conservative, liberal, or moderate? We Answered:
We currently have three main parties: Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrats (the latter haven't formed a government in a LONG time). Today there is little difference between them. The Labour Party were formed a century ago as a socialist party. They championed "socialism" until the 1980s when after successive election defeats, the party sought to "modernise" - i.e move to the centre. In 1995 Tony Blair was elected leader and abolished "Clause 4" which was Labour's promise to fight for socialism. "New Labour", as they called themselves, were elected (by a landslide) in 1997. This was after 18 years of Conservative government.
Labour put themselves forward as a centre party, but in truth they have built on Thatcherite policies. They have not made any attempts to re-nationalize, and income tax levels remain low for the wealthy. Overall, I think that they are just to the right of centre (obviously that is subjective). I suppose New Labour can be considered the equivalent of the US Democrat party so you decide for yourself what they are :-).

nothing - politicians are all pinheads, especially the liberals that are selling us out to the lobbyists. This SPENDING bill the DEMOCRATS passed is a disaster!
