I consider myself liberal, and feel there are two main focuses in general for liberals - freedom in social issues, and justice on economic ones.

The first part should be self-explanatory: liberals basically think people should be free to do what they want, so long as it does not infringe on the freedoms of others. Being pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, and strongly defending the separation of church and state are all key parts of this. So is the expansion of the Bill of Rights to allow for modern interpretation, such as the right to privacy (this was a Supreme Court interpretation and is NOT specifically written into the Bill of Rights). Church and State isn't about hating the church (ok, for some people it is) but more-so keeping them separate to allow for other beliefs to flourish as well without fear.

Economic equality I believe revolves around a different view of the economy from conservatives - where-as conservatives view money as a competitive effort, liberals see it as a cooperative one. We feel it should be in the interests of everyone to improve all social condition, not just your own. This is why we favor heavier taxes, especially on the rich, and higher government spending - it's an attempt to allow for the poor and otherwise less fortunate to have their fair shot at life. Are there people that take advantage of the system? Absolutely, but there are loopholes in every way of life that some jerk will try to take advantage of, and you can't let millions of people that are honestly struggle suffer just because some idiot doesn't feel like they don't have to work. This idea is also why the education system is often accused of being overly liberal - liberals see greater value in public service, so more of us go into teaching, while Republicans seek personal gain so they get degrees with higher-paying positions like engineering or lawyering.

I think liberals basically view a society made better by helping everyone, as opposed to a society made better by weeding out the "weak".

Liberals believe that every aspect of a persons life should be dictated to them. They believe in BIG government where citizens pay in to the government most of what they earn for the "Good of the Group". Its almost Socialism and goes totally against what America Stands for. Liberals will do anything to achive it, Lie, Cheat, Steal, whatever it takes and they've done a good job at it for many many years. The USA is finally waking up to their tactics though, so hopefully, they won't be around much longer. Their days are numbered.
