What Is A Liberal

Vernon Said:

What is the most Liberal country on the planet, a shining example of Liberalism?

We Answered:

It really depends on what you mean by liberal. If you mean state involvement to achieve social goals then I would agree with those who answered Norway--great country btw. If you mean least government involvement in the economy, then I would say Hong Kong.

Bernice Said:

Honestly, how can someone be a liberal?

We Answered:

The only comfort that I can offer you is that I was the same way as your friends when I was that age. When I got older, and became responsible for myself, I began to ask the same questions that you're asking now. When they grow up, they'll start wondering why they're working hard to support people who don't.

Johnny Said:

I am White and I want Whites to become a minority in the future, what is wrong with that?

We Answered:

Well i think you are a wonderful human being who can definitely see things from a unique and very non racist standpoint...

However, i don't think that will work as well as you or i might hope. For example the Hibernophobia that existed with early american immigrants was actually very vicious and practically equal to the same kind of racism that went against african americans after the civil war but before civil rights. So much so that african american and irish marital couples became somewhat common racist people labeling them "white ******" . A lot of people do not know this or want to sugar coat it for their own purposes...

The cast system of minority racial groups vs. majority racial groups creates a dichotomy of and potential for prejudice. The very concept of ethnicity inadvertently supports racism unfortunately. Man made racial boundaries and standards exist across the board and must be stopped. But i think the best way to do this is to phase out the modern concept of racial/ethnic groups and stereotypes all together rather than relabeling them.

It is time the world (the US specifically) needs to see and understand that CULTURE can exist and flourish and grow without racial labels. It is culture and unity that matter not skin tone, eye color, or hair texture.

And yes the media does buy into and perpetuate racist stereotypes. Although depending on what media you are focusing on sometimes white males and females can be targeted in a negative way as well for example; "the white girl stealing all the good black men", or "the white fraternity guy who drinks too much and abuses his "white privilege". I myself struggle with being mixed race and not fitting into their stereotypes. As i belong to a subculture (goth/punk/alternative whatever u wish to call it) which by societies standards i should not be interested in or be a part of. In fact most people of partial or full african american decent who are into rock instead of rap have great difficulty with peer and general acceptance into society.

Their is a thin line of political correctness / seeing to every ones needs equally and using whole groups of people as scapegoats in order to lift the weight of decision/responsibility making off the shoulders of others. Because individuals are smart but groups are usually ignorant humans often fail obtaining this type of utopia. But kudos to you for actually using the critical thinking part of your intellect.
