Am I Democrat Or Republican

Daisy Said:

Am I a democrat or a republican?

We Answered:

Give the gentile and level of sophistication of your message, you seem to be a Democrat.

You also seem to be thoughtful, well-informed and know how to write and spell.

Congratulations, you are a Democrat.

Lee Said:

What are a Republican, Democrat & Libertarian's views? How do I decide which I am?

We Answered:

Just look at the corruption that happened tonight. Taking away another one of our individual rights, lying, makin deals behind close doors, literally, is pretty much were the democratic party is at today. The Republicans opposed the current bill.

Nancy Said:

Who said this quote "I am a republican; I am a democrat."?

We Answered:

It certainly couldn't be Jefferson or the 1800 election, as he died in 1826 and the Republican Party wasn't formed until 1854. (Jefferson is an incredibly common 'quote magnet' for misattributions).

Looking at Google Books, the first occurrence I can find is 1870 in "The Ladies' Repository", Methodist Episcopal Church. General Conference, L. Swormstedt and J.H. Power, 1870. The speaker is arguing the wrongness of voting automatically for a candidate simply out of party loyalty:

What right have you, knowing there are bad men in your party, to say to primary meetings and conventions, "Do what you will I shall vote your ticket, for I am a Republican, I am a Democrat?" You surrender in advance your judgment and your conscience. You delegate, to other men, knowing some of them to be unscrupulous, that which is a solemn personal duty.

Problem is, this publication only has snippet view on Google Books, so I can't at this instant find the writer's name.

Nicole Said:

In Massachusetts, I am a registered Democrat. Can I vote Republican in the primary tomorrow?

We Answered:

Nope, MA has a closed primary. Sorry, Ron would have enjoyed your vote.

Edna Said:

How Do I Know If I Am Republican Or Democrat?

We Answered:

Republicans are generally pro-life. They see abortion (unless in cases of rape or in cases detrimental to the mother's health) and drug use as immoral. They fight to protect our right to bear arms and pray in schools. Usually, Republicans favor tax cuts for all, including the rich. Republicans are high on national security, no matter if it infringes upon our civil rights or not. Republicans stand for less governmental welfare and generally want as little governmental interference as possible. Usually, Republicans disagree with the theory of global warming.

Democrats are generally pro-choice. They see abortion as a women's choice and are more lenient as far as making some drugs legal. Democrats disagree with our right to bear arms and disagree with prayer in schools. Usually, Democrats tax the rich more and tax the middle class and poor the least. Democrats believe in national security, but not if it infringes on our civil rights. Democrats stand for more governmental welfare and believe the government should be big. Usually, Democrats agree with the theory of global warming.

Both parties generally agree with embryonic stem cell research. Both parties disapprove of the Iraq War now, although there are Republicans who still agree with it. Both parties want to devote more time into oil alternatives, although Democrats feel stronger about this issue.

I see myself as a Republican, although I agree with some Democratic ideals. I would recommend you spend some time in reflecting upon what you truly believe in before you make a decision. Do not let others influence your decision --- it is a private and very important one. Good luck.

Heather Said:

How can I find out if I am a Republican or Democrat?

We Answered:

Sounds like you have an open mind and not into believing everything the drive-by media would like you to-an excellent thing! Good for you! there is nothing better then to look at both sides of an issue and decide for yourself where you stand. The only thing I would say to you is that both sides of the bureaucracy are corrupt and bear watching-read history and see that when our system of govt was set up being a politician was not a life long job. As it goes the I believe Absolute power corrupts Absolutely. Th bill of rights and the constitution are to be held as sacred always and that no matter where you are from if you are here you are an american first! Good luck on your choices as you may find your thoughts may change as you grow and educate yourself the only convictions worth keeping are the ones worth dying for.
