The GOP is indeed set up for a split. It will happen immediately if the party nominates Guiliani, because the pro-life contingent will not tolerate a pro-abortion candidate leading the ticket. That's the one thing they simply will not do for the sake of the party. They'll go independent, or maybe take over the Constitution Party.

At any rate, the GOP can't continue down the same path much longer, even if it does nominate someone like Thompson (who I think will still lose to Hillary because of his pro-war stance) because it is steadily losing its core, limited government constituency. This police state, big government policy business is driving them out. Eventually, I expect them to form a third party.
