The true agenda of conservatism is transfer of wealth to the top.In the mid seventies the wealthy elite fearing that middle America was gaining a political voice of their own,and, also understanding that their limited numbers could never stand up to the middle class in a fair election, devised, through the use of highly funded right-wing think tanks, ways to brainwash and divide at least a large enough number of middle Americans so that they could prevail in elections and put into power officials that would legislate in their favor.You have mentioned two of the highly emotional issues in "American Exceptionalism". and of course the GOP has shamelessly manipulated people of faith ever since Ronald Reagan and his "Moral Majority". What many conservatives don't know (and even if they do know they deny it) is that the great saint of conservatism Reagan supported abortion when he was governor of California. He like Rudy Giuliani viewed abortion as an effective means of birth control for poor and minorities, and a way to keep welfare roles lower. Some other highly emotional issues are gun control,and of course Democrats/liberals/progressives are lazy welfare bums who want government handouts.After Reagan removed the fairness doctrine powerful propaganda specialists led by Rush Limbaugh reached great success on A.M. radio. They have went out of their way to discredit almost all media to prevent serious questioning of candidates or policies that are not favorable to the conservative agenda. The inoculation of Sarah Palin from media scrutiny both fair and unfair shows how much control that they exert over the media. These are just some of the reasons that Republicans are viewed as good politicians.Unfortunately being good at getting elected does not translate into being good for the country.

How I wish that middle Americans would realize that they have been manipulated for political gain,and would vote as one against the conservative machine.

Uncivil protests are easy to discredit. You'd be better off showing up and asking tough questions as opposed to showing up and merely shouting to drown out anyone you disagree with.
