Definition Of Republicanism

Jimmie Said:

Republicanism and our republic?

We Answered:

A republic is a country with a form of government in which there is no king or queen, the power of government given to one or more elected representatives. A republican is a member of the Republican party, who favors a republican form of government. Republicans are a conservative group of political leaders who are inclined to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change. They are also cautiously moderate, traditional in style, and they generally avoid novelty and showiness. Obviously there are some republicans that adhere to the guiding principles more than others. Still, they generally adhere to the ideas of being fiscally and socially conservative. Likewise, they allow for change if it is necessary, as in the case of McCain distancing himself from Bush. McCain is more pf a moderate than extreme conservative, and has a sentiment that is congruent with the sensible middle ground on most issues

Edgar Said:

Did the Founders differ in their definitions of Republicanism?

We Answered:

The Founders didn't define Republicanism, per se. The did have an understanding of the concept of republican government, but had a number of differences on how to implement it, with many of those differences illustrated in their public writings, many of which are published in the Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers.

Marsha Said:

HEY, LOOK AT MY ESSAY! is it good? ?

We Answered:

I agree with the first poster. Aside from the numerous grammatical and punctuation errors (perhaps this is your rough draft), what is the PURPOSE of the essay?

You state a few laws, some direct quotes, but mostly your opinion in a rambling fashion, but the purpose (or thesis statement) eludes me!!!!

Antonio Said:

I need help defining republicanism and federalism....?

We Answered:

Republicanism is the ideology ( idea ) of governing a nation as a republic, where the head of state ( president ) is often elected by the people, other than heredity.

Federalism is a system in which the power to govern is shared between national and central (state) governments, creating what is often called a federation. Proponents are often called federalists.*
