What are the significant differences between republicans & democrats? ?

Republican core beliefs

If you want to vote Republican, you have to believe the following:

Using stem cells for medial research is wrong, because you don't believe in destroying life, even if it lives in a petri dish. But it's OK to destroy larger forms of life in unnecessary wars and prison execution chambers.
Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.
The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.
Government should relax regulation of Big Business and Big Money but crack down on individuals who use marijuana to relieve the pain of illness.
"Standing Tall for America" means firing your workers and moving their jobs to India, while collecting several more millions for your CEO.
A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multinational corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.
Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay and making wounded soldiers pay for their own meals while recuperating.
Group sex and drug use are degenerate sins unless you someday run for governor of California as a Republican.
If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.
A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.
HMOs, insurance companies, drug manufacturers and power plants all have the interest of the public at heart.
Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.
Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in public schools.
Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.
A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense. A president lying to start a war is solid defense policy.
Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages, banning teaching of evolution, compelling public prayer and censoring the Internet.
The public has a right to know about Hillary Clinton's cattle trades and private health care meetings, but George Bush's driving record and Dick Cheney's private energy task force meetings are none of our business.
It's justifiable to seal your records if you're a Republican governor of Texas, but not if you're a Democratic governor of Vermont.
You support states' rights, which means the Attorney General can tell states what local voter initiatives they have a right to adopt.
You support states' rights, except when a state decides to recount votes in a disputed Presidential election. Then, it's better for a Republican Supreme Court to decide the election.
What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what George W. Bush did in the 1980s is irrelevant.
Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is under a Communist dictatorship, but trade with China and Vietnam are vital to a spirit of international harmony.
When a Democratic Presidential candidate wins a 49% plurality in a 3-way race, his presidency isn't legitimate. But when a Republican Presidential candidate receives half a million fewer votes than his opponent in a head-to-head race, he has a mandate for an extremist agenda.

Democratic Party believes:

•In equal opportunity for all citizens.

•In rewarding honest, hard work with a living wage in a tax system that is fair.

•In family values that are more than a political slogan.

•In quality education that gives all citizens the opportunity to reach their potential.

•In freedom from government interference in our private lives and personal decisions.

•That individual strengths in our diverse population are a benefit.

•In security in our homes and safety on our streets. Criminals should face swift and certain punishment.

•In separation of Church and State to preserve the freedom to pursue our beliefs.

•In a strong United States—morally, economically, and militarily.

•In commonsense reforms that give us cleaner and safer air and water.

Tyrone Said:

What are the differences between democrats and republicans?

We Answered:

Democrats like taking care of the poor through government programs and expanding the administrative welfare state. Republicans are more in favor of people taking care of themselves and keeping government out of our daily lives. Essentially Democrats are willing to expand government to take care of people, Republicans want to restrain government and help people through as little government as possible, using the private sector and charities to help people.

Differences between Republicans and Democrats concerning economics?

We Answered:

Conservatives (i.e. Republicans) prefer "lazie faire" - i.e. leave the economy alone and it will work everything out itself. Liberals (i.e. Democrats), see things in the economy that they feel a need to "improve".

The notion that Democrats want to raise your taxes is a false notion often parroted by Republicans. Democrats do favor good public services (roads, health care, police, fire, etc.). These things do take money, and when Democrats see a need, a need that cannot be met with the existing budget, they may well feel that they have to raise taxes to meet the percieved need.

Republicans think that you pay too much in taxes (doesn't matter how much you pay, it's still too much). They favor lowering taxes, even at the expense of the public good. Republicans have seriously scaled back the size of the FDA, to the point where it is practically unable to do the kinds of inspections that protect the public health, yet people wonder why so many outbreaks have been impatcting our food supply.

Make up your own mind, but my $.02 worth is that sometimes not spending money costs more than spending it. Health care is a perfect example. Cut the spending on preventative care, and now kids get more diseases that spread like wild fires.
