Originally the Democrats went against the "Federalist". The Federalist Party left the public light after they did not want to force the British Soldiers out of their country thinking it was a futile war that was hopeless (Sound familiar?) Then when the British soldiers were called back home they fell apart. The Federalists later became the Whig Party was split over the opinion of slavery when Abraham Lincoln became President in a third party called the "Republicans". Also the Democrats used to be the conservative party and the Federalist and the Whigs were the liberal party that wanted a stronger central government. Then in 1964 the Democrats and the Republicans traded positions and the conservative south became conservative Republicans and the north became the Liberal Democrats of today instead of Conservative Democrats and Liberal Republicans.

Democrats want help the man by giving him the fish
