The terms "Republican" and "Democrat" are fluid terms. Republicans back in the time of Harriet Tubman, were more liberal than they are today. Abraham Lincoln was a Republican president. Malcolm X didn't really have a political party preference.
In my opinion, focus more on what they did as people, not their political party members.
Oprah is a democrat. As is Carol Moseley-Braunbecame. I don't think that's very helpful though. Sorry.
