Republicans have attempted, in recent years, to be "all things to all people" this is a mistake.

They have also used very old fashioned methods of getting a message, that they felt was clear, out to the public.

But just look at YA and you will see that the message was neither clear nor effective. Ask young voters what a republican is and they tell you "old, white, rich" which has nothing to do with the party at all.

We need to stick to core values:

1. small government
2. military strength
3. core belief in the supremacy of the constitution
4. traditional values
5. personal responsibility

And we need to get that message...what that means exactly..out to the masses in a way that they take in info...web sites, youtube, small soundbites.

I don't think that most ambitious young people would have voted Dem had they been more aware of what the Dem party stands for. They bought into the young, hip, historical significance, without having a real idea of the ideology behind that party.

Edit: Good point, that is the problem....to me, tradiational values are shared pretty universally (appropriate behavior in society, education and hard work = success, personal resposnsibility, aid for those that are elderly, veterans, or are truly unable to work, support of family values, etc) Perhaps the idea that "American traditional" values would exclude others from other backgrounds does put people off. These are the sort of things that need to be addressed and explained so that people see that American family values = the American dream which is universally understood.

Unfortunatly, it is the "lunitic fringe" on all political sides that gets the press coverage. I am very active in Republican politics and I don't think that I know anyone who has such a narrow view of "traditional values." In my own extended family, we are both Christians and Jews (both practicing and non practicing) carnivours and veggies, lawyers and welders, farmers and city dwelers, pro-life and pro-choice supporters. I am a divorced Mom and while my parents have been married for 45 years, they are the exception. My mother (also active in politics) has two PhDs and only retired this year. We say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays depending on the company we are with and support people's right to respectfully agree to disagree on all matters (as long as they are respectful that is).

Rush Lingbaugh doesn't represent me or anyone that I know. But those are HIS opinions. That doesn't mean that he isn't interesting. Just as a lot of Dems listen to Chris Matthews but still can recognize the difference between Mathews opinions and facts.

There are those who are ULTRA conservative that have 1950's dictates about the roles of men and women. But that has nothing at all to do with Republican values. You will find that there are ULTRA liberals as well who don't share much with your every day Democrats. The problem is that the press tells viewers that the ultra-libs are the fringe of the dems party BUT the ultra-conservatives are the typical republican which simply isn't the case.

This is no rumor by any means and Obama should take this VERY seriously. This lawyer has taken this to court and is going to be heard, If the courts say Obama is NOT and American citizen the Dems are in some major trouble. The person above has NO idea that John McCain was born on a UNITED STATES ARMY BASE in Panama which makes him an American citizen DUH. They reason the media hasn't touched this is because they are waiting for the outcome of the verdict. They dont want to jump and look like fools.
Also ,should Obama make it to the white house and this proves true they do have the power to remove him from office
