He didn't really hate the republican party. I'm sure he hated some aspects of it. Also, I don't believe he would say that he hated any of his enemies. If we are talking racism, there was plenty of that to go around in both parties during the civil rights movement. The democrats of the south were very racist. I doubt Dr. King was real enthused about either party.

Maybe at one point, but the political climate really changed from the early-late sixties in terms of race relations, beginning with the Civil Rights bill of 1964, which both Democrats and Republicans worked on, but it was President Johnson (D) who actually signed it, which caused many Southern Democrats to revolt to the Republican party. Richard Nixon, the 1968 GOP nominee, made a real attempt to scoop up these voters with what was called the "Southern Strategy", which many considered racist. Supposedly, MLK was close to endorsing Bobby Kennedy before he was killed.

Back then most blacks were Republicans because the southern wing of the Democrat party didn't allow them into the party, this is certainly not true today because LBJ allowed them into the party.

Yesterday's Dems are today's Reps. After Johnson pushed the Civil Rights Bill through, the South left the Dem party in droves and became Reps.

Blacks vote democratic because its a lesser of 2 evils. Republican is way worse. And black people would have to be real stupid to believe all of that. Republicans used to be a great party and democrats used to be the southern racists. Its changed. I actually feel sorry for republicans. They don't seem to understand that their ways are destroying our economy and our standing in this world.
