Republican Party Information?

We Answered:

Hello Lizzie, been a while.... I hope you're doing well. I am a GOP member and active in the party at my university so I will do my best to answer your questions.

- History/Establishment
The Republican Party (otherwise known as the Grand Old Party) was founded in 1854. The two main partys back at that time were the Whigs and the Democrats. Soon, the Republican Party surpassed the Whigs and in 1860 elected President Abraham Lincoln as the first Republican president of the United States. If you want to read more about the history of the party, wikipedia is a great source (I've attached the link below).
- Candidates 08
The 2008 Presidential Candidate is Senator John McCain of Arizona, running with Sen. McCain is his vice president nominee Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska.
- Facts & Members
Something like 60 millions members (Wikipedia says 55million but I've heard more than that). Currently it holds the minority in the senate and the house of representatives. The Head of the party is Mike Duncan. A lot more of the stats are available on wiki.
- Goals & Principals
Originally it was for the abolition of slavery, But now the GOP stands for small government and mostly anything conservative.
- Statistics (which states vote republican more than democrat, etc.)
The states that normally vote republican are known as the "Red States"

Here is a map of the different states and how they voted in the Kerry/Bush election.

Notice that there are a lot more red states but the electoral college vote in that state is a lot less. A state like Mississippi may be red but it only has 6 electoral college votes, but states like California or New York which have 55 and 31 votes are blue.

Difference between Radical Abolitionist and Republican Party?

We Answered:

The radical abolitionists wanted immediate end to slavery. The Republican party was more diverse. Some of the Republicans favored the abolition of slavery, but many more favored containment: the idea to stop the spread of slavery, and that slavery will eventually just die out. I would say that the Republicans contributed more to Civil War since the election of Lincoln (a Republican) to the presidency caused southern states to secede.

Henry Said:

difference positions on slavery taken by the Radical Abolitionist and by the Republican party?

We Answered:

Radical Abolitionists demanded immediate emancipation, and usually annoyed Lincoln to take action. (ex. the Emancipation Proclamation) Lincoln (republicans) wanted to preserve the Union at all costs, and largely ignored the issue of slavery due to his caution and unwillingness to lose the border states. A common misconception is that Lincoln opposed slavery from the start, but that is not true. He switched from preserving the union to destroying slavery IN THE SOUTHERN STATES ONLY. Basically, the republicans were more moderate, until after the war of course. However, the repubicans definetly contributed to the start of the war more than the abolitionists, because when Lincoln was elected, that was the reason why states started to succeed.
The most simple answer to why it was different was that they differed in the degree of their ardor in freeing slaves.

When will the middle class turn on the Republican Party that has allowed the distruction of the economy?

We Answered:

LOL This is what happens when a liberal tries to understand Forbes! Pretty funny how he reworded it . But just to set the record straight About a year ago Forbes predicted that the economy was going to tank. Also predicting that we are heading for a recession! the cause of this recession? record level tax hikes voted in by are congress! Forbes also stated if they don't stop we will be facing a recession worse then the one Clinton left us with when he was impeached! This all started happening after the Liberals took over control of congress! I would love to see the article you claim by Forbes ! I notice you provided no link because what you claim is just another example of Liberals blaming Republicans for there screw ups! Your question and propaganda explanation is past spin it's a total lie!!!
