it is widely believed that a bitter attack ad front from the bush campaign led to maccain's downfall in 2000. bush later used the same strategy to discredit john kerry. it is so much easier to attack your opponent than to challenge him/her head to head on real issues. my fear is that the current election will devolve into the same mess once a democrat candidate has been chosen.
unfortunately, the american public responds to these types of attacks rather than rebuff the candidate doing to attacking. never underestimate the stupidity of the american public...

That butt-wipe Rove swiftboated him. He claimed the Bangladeshi kid the McCains adopted was McCain's black love child and harped on Cindy's drug addiction and theft history. Not one of Bush's better moments, but if he'd lost, McCain would be serving out his second term instead of running a loser's campaign to come in second in November.
