However, they continue because they seem to be effective. People dislike dirty politics but they pay close attention to them. And then one person's dirty trick is anothers campaign strategy.

If it had been as innocent as going on a hike to get away from it all, he would have surely told his wife and staff in case of emergency. There is no excuse for such behavior for a man in his position. I agree, it smells very fishy, and should be the voters concern.
