Louisiana Tea Party

Pauline Said:

Why was the Boston Tea Party expected? HELP ME PLEASE 10 points?

We Answered:

I don't know if it was actually expected. The king and Parliament knew the colonists were angry about the unfair taxes imposed on them. They were not permitted to buy any goods, including tea, from any other country except England.

The tea sat in the harbor, it couldn't go back to England, and the colonists refused to let it be unladen. If they did, they would have to pay tax on it. Then they decided to get rid of it by letting the fish in the harbor drink it instead.

The colonists at first just wanted to be treated fairly as if they were in England. The colonies were English colonies and they wanted their rights as any Englishman would.

They were refused consistently. Why? England needed money because of prolonged war with France. They saw the colonies as a gold mine. The only problem was they didn't care about the colonists' rights as Englishmen.

After the second Continental Congress, I believe, the idea to separate from England altogether was proposed. I think it may have been John Adams who was behind this.

The Louisiana Territory was under French control from 1682-1763 (and 1800-03). After France's defeat in the Seven Years' War in 1763, the eastern part of the LT was ceded to England and the western part to Spain. This information is all easily found in Wikipedia.

Dear, isn't there an index in the back of the book? Look up the things you want to know and carefully re-read them. You will learn the information better this way instead of just someone telling you. Why? Because repetition is the best teacher. Or you can just take the time to re-read the chapter. Read a third time. You will find the information you are looking for. How do I know this? I am a homeschooling mom and I have to deal with this every day. ;)

You can also Google something like, "Louisiana Territory 1763" and find the info you want quickly that way. That is what I did.

Of course, because I am a mom, I don't mind helping either.

Helen Said:

When Americans say they are proud of their heritage what is the earliest event they are proud of?

We Answered:

I think we are proud of most of this. The history we are taught in school usually makes it sound as if America "started" with Jamestown, so I guess that is where most of our national pride starts. This probably varies for different people, however. For example, I feel that winning our independence is when our nation started, though I am proud of most of those events, especially the abolition of slavery.
As for Americans who are proud of their heritage, I think everyone should be proud of their heritage. Every country in the world has some amazing things in their history, and no one is better than any other.
