Unions are largely responsible for many states now being on the brink of insolvency. In California?: Kudos to liberal mayor Gavin Newsom for forcing the unions to take a 10% pay cut to keep their jobs (otherwise, he would have fired them and hired them back at a 10% reduction in pay... so they didn't do it out of any sense of civic responsibility). LA mayor Villagrosa is fighting a similar battle with unions there. He said that they have "priced themselves out of a job."

San Jose is negotiating with unions here about the same thing and so far, they won't budge, which WILL result in layoffs, which is "too bad for the new guys and gals, I want to keep mine, and if San Jose is still in the red, so be it, as long as I have my job, high pay, and generous pension, funded by the private sector chumps."
