How did the Boston Tea Party effect American History? We Answered:
It was one of the events leading up to the Revolutionary War.Background details:
The British were placing what were considered to be excessive taxes on various goods shipped to and distributed within the colonies (sugar, tea, lead, paper, glass, etc. - see Townshend Acts and Stamp Act). These taxes were levied without representation from colonists and led to several protests on the part of colonists. John Hancock organized a tea boycott and began smuggling in tea without paying the import taxes. He was brought up on charges at one point, his ship was seized, and the British levied the Tea Act. This allowed the East India Tea Company to get out of paying the import taxes and offer the tea to colonists at a cheaper rate than what the smugglers could. The colonists resented this preferential treatment given to the large company and viewed it as an attempt to undercut their freedom.
After the actual event, everyone in Britain was supposedly appalled. This united them against the colonies and created a tense relationship. The British closed the Boston port and enacted the Intolerable Acts. Benjamin Franklin even attempted to pay the company back for the destroyed tea with his own money, but by that time, there were other events taking place that would lead to the war.

How did the Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Acts lead to the battles at Lexington and Concord? We Answered:
The Boston Tea Party was Massachusetts's demonstration that the would not put up with the Tea Tax. Parliament's view was that this was a direct act of vandalism toward the crown (but more toward themselves).Four of the Intolerable Acts were a direct response to the actions of Boston and the colonists saw them as arbitrary punishment toward all the colonies for the actions of one. If the colonies were to be punished equally, maybe they thought they themselves should act united.
So when Thomas Gage sent his men into the Massachusetts countryside to haul in John Hancock and Sam Adams as well as do a "search and destroy" of "illegal munitions" in Concord, not only was the neighboring area alerted and willing to put up a fight, all of the colonies were now ready to kick the British out.
