my mother has lots of traditional friends with old money so i've had my share of of tea parties. First off, It's improper to have a dress too long or too short, it needs to be either SLIGHTLY above the knee or SLIGHTLY below. The pattern should remain simple, nothing with bright colors. The hat isn't as formal as the dress, it just needs to be matching and lady-like, nothing too floppy or too high. Also, the hat should be any color but black. As for shoes, something strappy with heel would do just fine.

One idea for decoration and food is to buy jordan almonds in the colors of the wedding and put them in wine glasses on tables. Make small sandwiches and cut off the crusts, cut diagonally (roast beef, egg salad, tuna salad, turkey, and cucumber sandwiches). Go to Costco, buy a big veggie platter (or two) and display them on your own platters. Get champagne, sparkling apple cider, soda, bottle water for guests.
