That's really sweet :) and a good idea :)
- Ok so, You could like instead of party hats get some random weird hats (those chef hats even and one activity could be that they paint them!)
- You could print a picture out of the Mad hatter himself then have that "put the hat on the Mad hatter"
- You can dress up like him
- For the activities you could do like a duck duck goose game but instead have a rabbit, rabbit , hatter's game :)
- Have red and green streamers

I think an invitation would be very nice.

That woman should understand- she's been where you are before. I think SHE should have invited you (new Mum/new neighbour) to her place for dinner- not the other way about.

If she can't get past one evening in a new home with a new baby- she's not going to be a great friend in the end anyway.

So sure, put out some invites and say "Ok, we're finally unpacked and the baby is old enough for me to spend a few hours getting to know you all- come and we'll have a get together."

I have new neighbours right now- we've ALL introduced ourselves and yet- they turn their heads when people smile- now that is a tad creepy.
