You're correct. The NAACP called out the Tea Party for not denouncing the racist people within their ranks. Mark Williams and Billy (I own the US) Roper add nothing positive to the Tea Party. They are two OBVIOUS racists in the Tea Party.

The resolution calling for the TEA party to repudiate its racist elements was politically motivated. I don't deny that there were apparently some racists who came to TEA Party events but I would challenge the NAACP to ask for other organizations with at least as much visibility and even greater indications of racism to repudiate their racist elements. For example the Republican and Democratic Parties, major cities within the US such as Chicago, New York and Louisiana, major news networks such as CNN, MSNBC, etc.

By singling out the TEA Party they have lost the impact of their message and made this a political attack and not a moral one. Why did they not ask for all public policy advocates to repudiate the racist elements in their midst. The fact that it "worked" is an example of how seriously off base the attack was. If the TEA party was highly racist they would have attacked back.

The whole thing is so clearly political and amoral. Once the NAACP had credibility, now it is an arm of the DNC.

Chewy is correct, but I will add, the Tea Party movement is not just a group of conservative Republicans, or racist white people, it is in fact a group people of all races and political parties that are tired of the central, federal government placing the general public in a debt we can never pay off.
There are many Democrats involved in the movement also, and are very welcome to express their opinion.
The main problem is organizations like the naacp that are accusing them of being "racist" because they are worried the tea party might muster enough votes to stop the present administrations ideas that are killing the country.
This is not a racial issue, but one of survival of the nation as we know it and our economy.

Also much of the racist signs you see in photos are plants put there to make the Tea Party look bad.
I even saw one that was obviously a LaRouche follower who is far from a Tea Party supporter.

Since Reagan took office, the master plan of the Republicans is:

1. Spend like drunken sailors and hand out tax breaks, especially to the rich who will give you big campaign donations. Make it look like good times. Run the country right up to the brink of fatal bankruptcy.

2. Just as it all starts falling apart, put up a lame candidate you know will lose, and let the Democrats have control. Leave such a mess for the Democrats that they are forced to raise taxes to keep the treasury from going bankrupt.

3. As soon as the Democrats take power, immediately start screaming about deficits and high taxes.
