Whether we like it or not, we are held in the power of the media and, our political candidates spend a lot of money on negative campaign advertising on those same media outlets. It's hypocrisy, all parties do it and it's just the way it is. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican, but the party he belonged to has drastically changed. Party fealty is the death of independence because once they have you, they become complacent. Independents will make the difference at mid term elections and, I think it is a good thing to keep our politicians off balance. We have to stop the negative advertising and show them that we won't tolerate the dilution of our political process any longer. I would like to think that Beck - who has declared admiration for MLK - but received criticism for it - may be trying to honor his memory.

The hope is to garner the attention of our "leaders" and to inform them that we don't like the direction they've taken us with this insane spending spree we've been on the last few years.

The reality though-in my cynical opinion-is that it will have no effect b/c the "leaders" think we serve them and not the other way around. I really don't think those in charge care what the citizenry wants right now-If they did they wouldn't have passed that insane bailout bill and/or stimulus package. Nor would they even address the issue of making illegal immigrants legal-b/c the country is solidly not in favor of that-but they do those things anyway.
