The Boston Tea Party

Jane Said:

How was the Boston Tea Party important to a democracy?

We Answered:

As to the democratic process, it really didn't help. What it did help with though was the bringing of a revolutionary mindset in the American people during the period it was most necessary. We needed a feeling like that at the time or else the American people themselves would not have had the proper instigation to fight the British. A war may very well have ensued but it may not have had the same support. As some of you know already, the American revolution did not have widespread acceptance at the time. Most people did not want to fight the English at all and in most instances, their loyalties lied with the army that had the most recent success or even what army was closer to their house. In conclusion, the Boston tea party was important to democracy itself because it was a primary catalyst in igniting the American revolutionary war.
