Well, 'is it normal' isn't really a good question as there is no defined 'normal', but I know what you mean.
He doesn't socialise with anyone but his mother, he doesn't have any friends. If he just stays in his room and watches TV, then he needs mates. Try going down to the pub for a pint with him, go bowling. Get to know him and get him out the house, find him some friends, it might motivate him to do other things, like more work. You say he's a gardner, do you mean a landscaper? Ask around, see if you can get him some work for some extra money.
Just 'cause you don't hear or see him shower, doesn't mean he doesn't do it. He might just be self concious or incredibly shy.
He has an old tv and flight simulator, so he's interested in that stuff, I'm interested in collecting consoles, old and new, we all like different things.
Seems like he doesn'nt have a decent diet, try cooking him a healthy meal, maybe you can bond over a meal and a movie.
