Is SBS Australia broardxasting Eurovision (Oslo 2010) live? if so, how did the news know the winner?

We Answered:

The show starts at 5am AEST, so it's not live.

Australia can't vote. The voting for Australia is just an SBS gimmick

Mark Said:

Voting away from home? (Australia)?

We Answered:

You can wander in to the polling booth in Town Z, and file an absentee vote.

It is basically the same as a normal vote, except you will be required to declare that you are entitled to vote in your home electorate (in Town X). Your vote will simply be forwarded there once the polls have closed as if you'd voted there in the first place.

Alternately, you can vote early (up to two weeks before the poll, which would be August 7) if you know you will not be in your home electorate when the eleciton happens.

Terry Said:

Whos the prime minister of australia ? 2010 australia?

We Answered:

They're debating and negotiating with the independents.

It's a process that lasts however long it needs to last. In Britain we were lucky enough for it to last just 5 days, in contrast in 2008-2009 (yes it lasted that long) Belgium had no government for 9 months!

It looks like Abbot will be PM as it's 73 to Abbot, 72 to Gillard, the Green will back GIllard but then 3 of the 4 independents will almost certainly back Abbot, so even if the other guy backs Gillard (he probably will) Abbot will be PM by just one seat.

Dana Said:

Can someone other than Liberal or Labor be voted Prime Minister in Australia for 2010?

We Answered:

Any party (or group of parties) that has a majority of seats can choose a prime minister from among their elected MPs. Usually this is Labor or Liberal (in coalition with The Nationals).

It would be possible for another party to eventually become the government but it takes a long time. The Liberals, for example, have only been around since the 1940s.

Discuss It!
