Electronic Voting Systems

Nathan Said:

How do you write a candidate in if you have an electronic voting system?

We Answered:

That is a question you should ask the local board of elections. I would check before voting day because the voting place will be loaded with people voting as many times as possible

Patsy Said:

Do you trust the electronic voting systems?

We Answered:

No. If someone can "hack" the Pentagon a voting machine is not very safe.

Jerome Said:

How effective has the electronic voting system been in India?

We Answered:

EVM has been successful in India. Although, in some backward areas it is still not feasible. EVM store votes in intangible form, which makes it easier and quicker to count with less mistakes. So why waste resources on outdated techniques, opt for advanced things..... Thuis is the basic FUNDA

Agnes Said:

What are the three main manufacturers of electronic voting systems?

We Answered:

I can only name one that I'm aware of, Diebold. They're based in Ohio I believe and have been in the news quite a bit. There has been speculation about their machines in the 2004 election and the proper counting of votes. Should be lots of articles out there on it.

Caroline Said:

the new electronic voting system just another way for the republicans to stifle democratic voters?

We Answered:

I guess all that college education isn't helping you here now is it? L2Vote noob!

Katherine Said:

who [within the state] deciedes whether that state will use paper or electronic voting systems ?

We Answered:

Frank Anderson makes that decision.

Rebecca Said:

If the public demands verifiable paper-trail electronic voting systems, can we have them in place by 2008?

We Answered:

I answer is to keep using reliable machines like this one.

They are big, green ugly and cheat-proof.

A voting machine should never need to be plugged in. Never mind your paper trail. Good old fashioned gears and levers are the order of the day. There are some things that just can't be improved and this is a good example of that. Keep the Green machines!

The real issue is not cheating, its accuracy.

It will be some time before hackers are sophisticated enough to steal an election like you are suggesting.

I think you are a bit hysterical but you have a point. Just don't overstate your case. That's the best way to lose an argument.

In Connecticut they want to use those optical readers even though everyone knows they have an error rate even if used right.

God help us. No one listens to reason anymore.
