Enroll To Vote

Edwin Said:

Just realised my partner and I are not enrolled to vote?

We Answered:

Are you sure you're not? I think it's the same enrolment for federal and state elections so if you voted in the federal election last year then you might still be enrolled for the state election? Or is it because you changed your address?

Enrolment has closed, and you can be fined for not voting (not sure how much), though I think they only fine if you are on the electoral roll and then don't turn up. If you are not on the roll, they might not find out.

I suggest you call and find out what they say.

Darlene Said:

How much does the average Presidential candidate (eg.Obama) spend on trying to get people to enroll and vote?

We Answered:

133,478,488

Kristin Said:

If you never enrolled to vote at 18 and now after 10 years you want to enroll, will you get into much trouble?

We Answered:

Are you an australian citizen? if so you are required by law to vote and it $50 fine for not voting in every election including your local, state and federal elections. Seeing you have missed a few or 10 that would be $500 plus extra things they add on.

However they might wave it if your lucky or not notice it. Enrol now to avoid extra fines or being caught.

Micheal Said:

What happens if I don't enroll to vote for the Australian elections .?

We Answered:

Ben,

All my intelligent buddies have answered the question... I'm just here to prove I still answer a political Q or two.

It's not like going to the dentist to get a tooth pulled, or lining up behind your siblings for a kiss from Granny... It's pretty painless.

People CAN and HAVE accessed the electoral roll. People like thugs, debt collectors, and junk mail houses. If, like the majority of us you have no problems with the first two mentioned, then for the love of being Australian... ENROL!

If you have no political leanings, have a chat to the people on the way in to the polling booth, before you grab a sausage from the scouts, who will no doubt be there trying to make a difference. You might surprise yourself, and find something you are passionate about on the journey.

I spent a few years staying off the electoral roll when I was in my teens and early twenties... Nothing happened, I was not fined or jailed. I now reckon I was a dumbass for doing that.
