You are right, it has opened this country to 3rd world style corruption!
And it was introduced because politicians (from this government) were concerned about falling voter numbers.
After some of the joke politics we have recently experienced they are actually surprised we are learning to despise them.
For example:
"We didn't really promise a referendum on the European constitution, and even if we did, the European Treaty is completely different". Sure it is.
"The tax hike on road tax is for environmental reasons" Of course, now I will take the bus.
"The tax hike on Wine is about binge drinking" Well, that ought to fix the Chardonnay louts.
Oh...I almost forgot. The house prices are collapsing, everything costs you more, our soldiers are dying in Iraq, MRSA stalks our hospitals, Immigration is out of control
"but don't worry - I am tackling the great plastic bag crisis"
The big surprise is that anybody votes at all!

that is an interesting idea, you should send it in writing to your local legislator

the only thing is that hackers could possibly go in and change the vote completely so that someone else would win the election who wasn't actually chosen. Rather than going to vote multiple times or something, a hacker could go in and alter the numbers to completely change the winner of the election by giving someone an extra 100000 votes and whatnot. So security may be a bigger issue still..
